Double Ninth Festival, Targeted Poverty Alleviation- Provide Services to Veterans in Old Revolutio

On October 28^th, on the occasion that The nineteenth Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully concluded, and the upsurge of learning the spirit of the nineteen was raised in the whole country, “Double Ninth Festival, Targeted Poverty Alleviation-  Provide Services to Veterans in Old Revolutionary Areas Event ” was held in Suichuan county which is one of being helped regions by Ministry of Civil Affairs, which was sponsored by China Association of Social Welfare and Senior Service(CASWSS) and China Association of Research&Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine(CARDTCM), organized by People’s Government of Suichuan county, Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Service Branch of CASWSS, Editorial Board of  “Welfare China”. During the Launching Ceremony, President Feng Xiaoli introduced the aims of this event, included earnestly implement the spirit of the nineteen, implement the essence of fully carry out the new work deployment of livelihood, civil affairs of the nineteenth Congress of the Communist Party of China from Huang Shuxian, Minister of Civil Affairs, cooperate with Ministry of Civil Affairs on Lohsiao mountain key poverty alleviation project, on the occasion of  “Double Ninth Festival”, enterprises and welfare institutions organized by CASWSS and CARDTCM went to Lohsiao mountain old revolutionary areas with concern and care for disabled and half-disabled elders who had made great contributions in the founding of new China during Anti-Japanese War and the War of Liberation through carrying out TCM inquiry, equipment and newspapers and periodicals donation and professional nursing training and other events, making them feel the efforts of our country to promote senior service system construction and improve the quality of life for veterans in old revolutionary areas, help those areas explore the combination of old revolutionary areas poverty alleviation and senior service and effective path of offering targeted service to veterans.

After the Ceremony, leaders from Jiangxi Civil Administration Office, Municipal Government of Ji’an and Suichuan county, and leaders from the sponsors and organizers and TCM experts from major hospitals in Beijing were divided into 6 groups respectively who went to more than 10 townships and 20 villages to condole veterans of Anti-Japanese War, the War of Liberation and the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, offered them free clinic service, donate quadropods, multifunctional wheelchairs, traditional Chinese medicine and solatium and brochure of Practical Nursing Skills for the Elderly. Leaders and experts from each group communicated with the elderly and their family members, got a deep understanding of senior service needs of the elderly from poverty areas, gathered the first-hand information to deeply research the effective supply of senior service in rural areas. 

Under the leadership of former president of CASWSS Liu Guanghe, the first group went to Linyang village of Daijia Po, Qiantang village of Meijiang, Yinyun community of Quanjiang, Jingyuan of Jiangjin to condole veterans, included Xue Chaodong, Wang Renxiang, Xiao Qilie and Liu Chunxi. 

Under the leadership of vice-president of CARDTCM Yu Gengsheng，the second group went to Huangtang village of Zutian, Nancun village, Zhutian village, Xianxi village to condole Li Renliang, Huang Youqing, Li Longcan and Guo Lunqing.

Under the leadership of vice-president of CASWSS Liu Yutong， the third group went to Quxi village of Zuoan, An’xi village, Fengcheng village, Huangxi village of Huangkeng, Jintian village to condole Gu Zhangyuan, Luo Chuangui, Huang Chenmi, Zhong Huanji and Ye Changtai. 

Under the leadership of vice-president of CASWSS Hou Youwen， the forth group went to Gongqian village of Caolin, Xixia village, Gutuan village of Heyuan to console Liu Yuande, Zeng Lanqing, Zeng Qingxiang, Liu Changbo and Liu Yuantan. 

Under the leadership of vice-president of CASWSS Liu Youxue, the fifth group went to Liangtou village of Quanjiang, Wuliang village, Zhoushang village, Hexi village of Dakeng to console Tang Pu, Xie Xiaoshu, Huang Mingguang and Feng Zhaotang. 

Under the leadership of vice-president of Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Service Branch of CASWSS Li Chunlei, the sixth group went to Liaofang village of Xixi, Donggao village of Quanjiang, Longnao village of Yutian, Panxi village to console Liao Xuehuan, Liao Huihuan, Li Zihao, Duan Wenlan and Jiao Qibo.

The Life Care Skills Training was held in the morning of October 29^th in Suichuan Civil Affairs Bureau. The training class was hosted by Zeng Jianbing, director of Suichuan Civil Affairs Bureau，Feng Xiaoli, president of CASWSS and Yangliang, Deputy Head of Suichuan county. Experts from Changsha Second Social Welfare Home provided training classes to management personnel from 24 nursing homes and glory homes, and veterans’ family members in terms of life care and professional nursing skills. The trainees expressed that they gained knowledge, broadened horizons, and would actively made contributions to offering service to veterans. 

After the training class, former president Liu Guanghe and current president Feng Xiaoli of CASWSS, Director of Jiangxi Civil Administration Office Liu Jinjie, deputy director Fan Sheng, vice mayor Liu Zhenguo and deputy head Yang Liang went to Society Welfare Center of Suichuan county, made an on-the-spot investigation, visited disabled and half disabled seniors, jointly discussed the issues of senior service institutions implementing spirit of the nineteen and improving the level of service management.

The public welfare activities was greatly supported by government department, passing love and care to those veterans, actively tried to link up targeted poverty alleviation with targeted service for rural elderly, link up the scientific and technological achievements of service industry in recent years with service demand of the rural elderly, link up the professional service skills with cultivating of rural senior service ability, made an on-the-spot investigation to establish model of rural senior service which can be adapt to the economic and cultural development in poor areas. The public welfare activities has achieved the desired effect.

The public welfare activities has caused widespread concern in the society. CCTV, China Education, China Community Newspaper, China Social Welfare and "Welfare China" and other media conducted field interviews and reports.
