Sino-Canadian Healthy Aging Collaboration Seminar Successfully Convened

On December 7-8, 2022, the ‘Sino-Canadian Healthy Aging Collaboration Seminar’ was successfully convened online. The seminar was jointly hosted by Embassy of Canada to China, China Association of Social Welfare and Senior Service (CASWSS) and SSIDC Senior Service Informatics Development Community (SSIDC). Jennifer May, Canadian Ambassador to China, FENG Xiaoli, President of CASWSS, LI Jianjun, Vice President of CASWSS, TIAN Laning, Chairwoman of SSIDC, Francis Huot, Canadian Commercial Counsellor to China presented and addressed the seminar. The seminar was moderated by Christopher Loan, Canadian Trade Commissioner to China, and was divided into two sections, ‘Elderly Service and Healthcare’, ‘Elderly Care Training and Technological Innovation’. Nearly 300 guests from associations, enterprises, institutions, colleges and universities of China and Canada participated.

In her speech, Ambassador May extended sincere congratulation to the seminar, through which she expected that the latest results and practical experiences between China and Canada in the field of healthy aging would be shared with all the Chinese colleagues in the elderly service industry, so as to provide international collaboration experiences and cases for our positive response to population aging, and further promote the exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada in the field of healthy aging. Through our joint efforts, we would tackle challenges together and tide over this difficult time.

FENG Xiaoli, President of CASWSS

President FENG Xiaoli extended her sincere gratitude and welcome to the hosts of the seminar and guests present online. She delivered a keynote speech themed by ‘The Innovative Development Trend of the Elderly Service Industry in the New Era’, introducing the achievements made by China in the past decade on developing the elderly service industry, related policies and trend of development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. She also pointed out that Embassy of Canada to China, on behalf of the Canadian government, had actively organized local government departments and elderly service brand institutions to participate in several sessions of China International Senior Services Expo (CISSE) and its main forum, both hosted by CASWSS. The cooperation between Embassy of Canada to China and CASWSS covered a wide range and achieved many results. She expected that this online seminar would further deepen the communication and exchanges between China and Canada in the elderly service sector, expand China’s elderly service market, and promote global exchanges and cooperation, making positive contribution to our vision to care for the older persons and create a brighter future.

Francis Huot, Canadian Commercial Counsellor to China

In his speech, Counsellor Huot introduced the latest situation elderly training and technological innovation in Canada. He pointed out that Canada attaches great importance to the field of training, and has built a comprehensive elderly care training system that covers all fronts, with rigorous standards and certificate courses of various categories. In regard to elderly healthcare technological innovation, the relevant technology in Canada witnessed fast development, and its R&D and application in Artificial Intelligence and medical auxiliary appliances have achieved many innovation results, on which the Canadian enterprises would make detailed introductions in the seminar. In the end, he wished a full success to this event.

LI Jianjun, Vice President of CASWSS

In the section of ‘Elderly Service and Healthcare’, LI Jianjun, Vice President of CASWSS delivered a keynote speech with the theme of ‘Research on Rehabilitation Technology Strategy under the Background of Aging’, sharing insights on rehabilitation technology from the following three aspects, namely the necessity of rehabilitation science and technology research under the background of population aging, strategic research methods in the field of rehabilitation science and technology under the background of population aging, problems faced by strategic research in the field of rehabilitation science and technology under the background of population aging. He expected that more noble minded people can join the strategic research on rehabilitation science and technology, contributing their strengths and wisdom to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.


Representatives from 8 Canadian institutions including SE Health, Canada-China Ageing Industry Development Inc. (CCAD), Marryhealth Enterprises North America Inc., Canada Wellness Institute, Ontario Ginseng Grower Association, Jamieson, Webber Naturals and DPA Industries Inc. promoted the advantages of their products in the sectors of elderly service and healthcare and their applications in China.


In the section of ‘Elderly Care Training and Technological Innovation’, Dr. TIAN Lanning stressed the Sino-Canadian High-Level Management Training Project on Long-Term Elderly Care carried out by SSIDC with CICAN.


Representatives from Seneca College, NorQuest College, Laurentian University, Unitron, Altumview, Ambulosono, Vigurus, RiJe, Cleanslate UV, Pinel Medical and their Chinese partners promoted elderly care training cooperation projects and Canadian technological innovation products through presentations or videos.

In the Q&A sessions, the participating guests and representatives of enterprises had deep discussions on research evidence, application of functions, training projects and professions of the Canadian institutions, showing great interest of cooperation in Canada’s advanced management philosophies for elderly services, their R&D on the products and their practices in China. The seminar achieved a great success.


Meanwhile, to let more domestic elderly service enterprises and institutions to have a deeper knowledge of Canada’s successful experiences and service brands in elderly services, CASWSS, SSIDC and Ageing Society 30 Forum will stream the ‘Sino-Canadian Healthy Aging Collaboration Seminar’ through online platforms in Mid-December to share the results. We look forward to the attention from the elderly service industry!
